South of Lac du Der, the port of the nautical resort is often occupied by birds, summer and winter. Barn swallows (Hirundo rustica) or window swallows, Black-headed gulls (Chroicocephalus ridibundus) or Pierregarin Terns (Sterna hirundo) take advantage of the infrastructure to land. Cormorants (Phalacrocorax carbo) and their spectacular loons are seen more often in the southern basin. The Lac du Der is a unique reservoir and a paradise for all birds. It is a Natura 2000 classified site protected by the LPO.
