The Tubuai lagoon extends up to 3.1mi (5km) wide around the island. Its exceptional surface and almost absence of pollution create ideal conditions for the development of coral. The relatively cool water temperature, which never exceeds 78.8°F (26°C), avoids the whitening phenomenon, elsewhere quite common.
