The sea is the true economic lifeblood of Dieppe. From the top of Avenue Gambetta, visitors see numerous trawlers, pleasure boats, and freighters. The very life of the city revolves around its four ports. The fishing port is the leading shellfish port in France and has been supplying Paris with fish since the 12th century. The commercial port developed significant activity and was the first banana port in the 19th century. The marina is flourishing with three basins dedicated to tourism (Ango, Duquesne, and Paris). The cross-Channel port perpetuates the connection with England that already existed in 1790.
