The Explorers
A fortress-shaped rock called Hans Castle dominates the lac Blanc (White lake). The stone rises about 300 ft (100 m) above the lake, and a white Virgin statue sealed in 1977 sits on top of it. The lake extends amidst an ancient Quaternary glacier made of granite stone. It is located in what is today known as the Kaysersberg Valley, in the heart of the Ballons des Vosges Natural Park.
