Smith's squirrels live in territorial family groups and recognize each other through their common smell. They sleep all together in a nest settled in a natural tree hole. Diurnal, they are active from the first light of the day to dusk, and enjoy the cooler hours feeding. During the hottest hours, they rest and groom each other very meticulously.
