In the inner courtyard of the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle in the Bas-Rhin, a hexagonal tower with a staircase leads to the keep and the first floor of the dwellings. The tower was redesigned by the architect Bodo Ebhardt during the restoration of the castle in the early 20th century. Using the remaining stonework, the architect reconstructed a neo-Gothic tower with Renaissance-style openwork windows. The elaborate lintel bears the coat of arms of the Thierstein family, lords of the castle from 1479 to 1517. On either side of the entrance, two small statues of bound soldiers stand as a warning to unwary visitors.
