The grave of an abbess

The church of Notre-Dame d’Epernay was built on the site of a former Ursuline convent transformed into a hospice in the 18th century. Built from 1898 to 1915, it was partly destroyed by a bombardment in 1918, and restored in 1924. Inside the church, a sacred art space contains precious liturgical vestments, 15th and 16th century statues, and a 15th century tombstone classified as a historical monument and bearing the effigy of Marguerite de Châteauvillain, abbess of Argensolles, a convent in the Epernay region which has now disappeared.
