The steel structure of the Grand Palais
0
0
The construction site for the Grand Palais was colossal. The architects called on three steel construction companies to build the structure. Baudet, Donon et Cie was responsible for the southern nave, while Moisant-Laurent-Savey was responsible for the northern nave and the grand staircase. The dome and the transverse nave were built by the company Daydé & Pillé (photo). Steam cranes were used to lift the heavy parts, while the others were often lifted by hand. With this construction site, Daydé & Pillé established itself as a top-tier company. Later, they built the Mirabeau Bridge and the Passy Viaduct in Paris.
