The stability of the wood turner's hand
0
0
The wood turner's hand does not need any particular strength but a very great stability to hold the tool (gouge, chisel...) which shapes the material moved by the lathe. It is for this reason that Robert Marichy - a wood turner in Arinthod in the Jura department - holds his tool with both hands and leans on a support. In certain types of installations and for certain types of processing, the human hand can even be replaced by a tool carriage which is more stable than itself.
