The selection of the team

Before each sleigh ride, Pierre Daniel, a musher in Septmoncel-les-Molunes in Jura, chooses the dogs he will place at each harness station just as a football coach would do for the composition of his team. The placement is made on the basis of the individual skills and competences of each dog. Each dog is liable to change position at each outing. Changes are indeed recommended, especially for the leadership positions, in order to train other dogs in these positions and to promote their independence but also to punctually distinguish and reward deserving dogs.
