The inhabitants of Baume-les-Messieurs can take advantage of the passage of the Seille at the bottom of their blind valley to fish the trouts particularly abundant in the upper course of the river. Its lower course, between Louhans and La Truchère, is for its part colonized by catfish, some of which reaching record sizes and weights (7.2 feet / 2.20 m ; 145 lbs / 66 kg) which have made its reputation.
