The HF.20 biplane (photo) was built by Henri Farman in 1913. Born in France to English parents, Henri Farman had two brothers, Thom-Dyck (Dick) and Maurice. Dick was an electrical engineer, while Henri and Maurice were keen sportsmen, first racing cyclists and then racing cars. Around 1905, Maurice discovered aerostation and then aviation and introduced Henri to the sport. In 1907 and 1908, Henri Farman accumulated speed and distance records in a Voisin biplane he had modified. In 1910, the Farmans opened their aviation factory in Boulogne-Billancourt and received their first military orders. They went on to produce thousands of aircraft.
