The architecture and interior decorations of Saint-Bartholomew Church in Gorbio are typical of the 17th-century Ligurian baroque style of the countryside. It is particularly present in the region, which has long been under Italian domination. A whole tourist route called Baroque Nisso-Ligure crosses the baroque sites of the Alpes-Maritimes department. It starts from Nice and the coast before entering the middle and high hinterlands through the Paillon, Bévéra, and Roya valleys. This tour testifies to the artistic style born in Italy that became the triumphant expression of the Counter-Reformation.
