The search of a Camargue nation

The costume, customs, and traditions of the Pays d'Arles, Camargue and the bullfighting areas, as well as the Félibréenne doctrine of Frédéric Mistral's work, are preserved and glorified thanks to the Nacioun Gardiano, whose first bases were established in 1904 with the creation of the Coumitat Vierginien. It aimed at preserving the race of Camargue men, bulls, and horses around the bull seen as a means of reunification and union of the people. Eager to found a Camargue nation, it took up the thought of Mistral: One language, one people, one ideal. The association was declared in the official gazette on September 16, 1909, under its new name of Nacioun Gardiano. Over the years, it has participated in actions to defend its ideals by tridents raisings and gatherings in Beaucaire and Arles.
