Canada is one of the few countries in the Arctic zone where aboriginals are not a minority even though their population is declining because of a high immigration rate as a result of the industrial development. The median age of the population is younger than in the more temperate regions: 19 for Aboriginals and 22 for non-Aboriginals in Nunavut, but the life expectancy is lower and the mortality is higher.
