It culminates at 979 meters in height. As a comparison, Niagara Falls culminate at 99 meters. Salto Angel Waterfall is the highest waterfall in the world. In the Arukena language, a Carib language spoken in Venezuela and Guyana, the waterfall is baptized, Kerepakupai Vená which means the waterfall of the deepest place. It owes its name today to Jimmy Angel, an American aviator who discovered it in 1933 while looking for gold veins. The waterfall is located in the Canaima National Park in eastern Venezuela (South America). The surface of the Canaima National Park is spread over 3 million hectares, which is approximately the same area as Belgium.
