A figurehead in the popular imagery associated with the city of Saint-Malo, the Bon Secours seawater swimming pool bears witness to the bygone era of the Golden Age of 'baths' and seaside tourism. It was built in 1936 on the initiative of a visionary entrepreneur René Lesaunier, the owner of the 'Bains René' on Bon Secours beach, to allow his customers to have access to a huge body of water even when the sea receded far away during great tides. Faced with the municipality's lack of enthusiasm, he rallied the general public and then the public authorities to his cause by promoting his concept through media events. The swimming pool anchored in the rocks which has survived to the present day has since benefited all the tourism professionals of the city.
