Fishing and hunting are essential to the Inuit survival. Both can be practiced by cutting a hole in the ice floe to access seals or fish. The Inuit traditionally fish with a long-handled harpoon in dug holes or by taking advantage of existing cracks or fractures. Today, they also place long lines or nets under the ice.
