The weakest part of the fortress

It is possible to access the grand bastion from the upper garden of Haut-Koenigsbourg castle. Above its door, a lintel praises the merits of Kaiser Wilhelm II, who had the fortress restored. Built on the weakest part of the castle, the grand bastion was heavily fortified to withstand artillery fire from the west. Two other fortresses are visible on the neighboring summits from its north tower: the Ortenbourg and the Frankenbourg.
