Nostalgia for the vibrating bell tower

The consolidation in the 17th century of the vibrating bell tower of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Church in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie inspired a certain nostalgia. It is perceptible in the testimonies of the priest of Sièyes in Géographie des Basses-Alpes in 1849 or of the Marquis de Gallifet in La gueuse parfumée published in 1845. Some even claim that the bell tower continues to vibrate and to transmit the secret lament of a past that wants to relive its tradition to those who know how to listen and wait for the motion of its stones.
