The wilderness of the bay

Located on the cliffs of Carolles, the ‘Cabane Vauban’ (Vauban hut), built at the end of the 17th century, offers an impressive overlooking of the Mont-Saint-Michel bay. The Mont can be seen towering above a sea of sands, with the Tombelaine rock just besides it. At low tide, the immense bay reveals its sandbanks as far as the eye can see, like a reverence made to the Mont. With the constant changes in light, a walk along the customs officers’ path with a Cotentin donkey (Equus asinus) provides an instant insight into the wilderness of the bay.
