We can see the naked and hanging gular pouch of the marabout in flight when its neck is extended. This is a striking peculiarity of the species whose function is not formally established. It could be a food reserve or, as this bag is more prominent during nesting, an attribute used during courtship displays. It is used to support the weight of the big beak.
