Historically, linen is the oldest textile in the world: its discovery dates back to 36,000 BC in a cave in the Caucasus. Today, Normandy is responsible for 50% of the world's production of fibre flax, making it the world's leading region. Its temperate and humid oceanic climate, its low temperature range, and its rich and deep soil are particularly favourable to the cultivation of flax.
