The Jung Selig house and Hansi Museum
The Jung Selig house dominates Riquewihr from the top of its five floors, making it one of the tallest half-timbered houses in Alsace. The two main buildings, each dated 1561, were probably brought together during construction or a little later. The right corner of the house was cut off to clear passage for the carts to turn in the adjacent lane. Next to it is a museum dedicated to the work of Jean-Jacques Waltz, known as Hansi (1873 - 1951), a famous popular picture-maker and Alsatian caricaturist. He evokes with tenderness and humor the Alsace of yesteryear on more than 150 boards. The stone house which shelters its works, known as the stork's nest, is a set of six rooms in Renaissance style.
