The hand of God

Marc Chagall wrote it down himself: it is the hand of God. He privileged color over shape to express it. Orange and yellow, which symbolizes the Divine, mark this presence amid celestial blue. Although steeped in Jewish belief, Chagall was impressed by his visit to Palestine, Syria, and Egypt in 1931, where he immersed himself in the atmosphere of the Bible. Rather than representing God, he preferred to disseminate His presence.
