The fight againt invasive species

The island of Bagaud has recently been the victim of an invasion by two very present exotic species, the sour fig (Carpobrotus edulis) and the black rat (Rattus rattus). An integral reserve of the Port-Cros National Park, the island was submitted from 2009 to a ten-year restoration program led by the park, the Mediterranean Botanical Conservatory of Porquerolles, and the Mediterranean Institute of Biodiversity and Marine and Continental Ecology (IMBE), with the help of many other partners. It aimed to assess the evolution of the natural systems of the Mediterranean islands after the eradication of the two invasive species. The program also intended to measure their impact on the terrestrial fauna and flora as well as the terrestrial and marine avifauna of the island.
