La Londe-les-Maures, a wine-growing commune with a woody name

Located on the Mediterranean coast at an average altitude of 32.8 feet (10 m), the municipality of La Londe-les-Maures covers an area of 49.2 square feet (79.29 km2) covered with 19.5% of vineyards. However, its name 'Londe' used to designate the 'thickets, woods or wooded areas' which still occupy more than 20% of the municipal territory. The many wineries in the commune have the authorization to produce the appellations Côtes de Provence, Maures, Méditerranée and Var and obtained in 2008 the creation of a specific appellation 'Côtes de Provence - La Londe'.
