The legend of a buried princess
0
0
The name of Mont Tombelaine, opposite Mont-Saint-Michel, comes from a 12th-century legend. The designation tumba Helenœ (tomb of Helen) is also found in old documents. Legend says that a princess named Helen, daughter of King Hoël, was kidnapped by a giant and buried there. The medieval poet Robert Wace refers to this tale in his Roman de Brut. Helen would sometimes be heard on Mont Tombelaine by tempest nights.
