In honor of the first woman to rule a manade (Camargue bulls herd), Fanfonne Guillierme’s day traditionally marks the opening of the bullfighting season, generally on the first Sunday of March. The village of Aimargues honors its figure by adorning itself with azure and gold, the colors of her herd, and by organizing a parade. Horse riders, Arles girls in traditional costumes, and folk groups head towards Saint-Saturnin Church to celebrate a mass in Provençal. After the ceremony, the priest goes to the town hall square and blesses the horses of the herdsmen present.
