The spruce tree (Picea abies) is a conifer with a conical and pointed silhouette which is very common in the high-altitude forests of Jura. Eighty-two to one hundred and forty-seven feet high (25 to 45 meters), it presents a dense and evergreen foliage, here covered with snow. Its 0.6 to 0.8 inch (15 to 20 mm) long square-section needles, however, fall out after ten years on average.
