The Metallurgic Park casting hall

The most important piece of equipment in the Metallurgic Park is the blast furnace in the casting hall. In operation from 1835 to 1885 at the Dommartin-le-Franc foundry, this equipment has been saved, preserved, and rehabilitated by the ASPM. Thanks to an ingenious scenography, visitors are able to see every stage in the production of cast iron, from the loading of the blast furnace to the simulation of a casting, via the crawling path that leads to the throat (i.e. the upper part of the furnace). At the end of the 19th century, the foundry used a cupola (vertical shaft furnace) to produce secondary cast iron.
