The red Applevage n°14 crane

The red Applevage n°14 crane that stands in the middle of the sea wall of Nice's port has been listed as a Historical Monument since March 2000 and obtained the 20th Century Heritage label a year later. This electric gantry crane was built in riveted and bolted beams, profiles, and sheets by the Parisian company Applevage in 1937. Seventy-two feet (22 m) high and weighing 83 tons, it has a lifting capacity of 5 tons over a range of about 49 ft (15 m). Damaged during World War II, the crane was repaired in 1947 and completely restored in 1956.
