Geology and mining gave birth to the exceptional site of the Provençal Colorado of Rustrel which combines a whole range of yellow, red, orange, brown and sometimes even green or purple ochres in a succession of cliffs, cirques, chimneys and hills. The contrast with the abundant vegetation of maritime pines, heather and chestnut trees characteristic of siliceous areas is all the more striking.
