The formation of couples of greater flamingos (Phœnicopterus roseus) takes place discreetly in the middle of the collective parades. Contrary to what the very explicit message of the heart formed by the necks of these flamingos suggests, the process is hardly noticeable. It is assimilated to a pseudo search for food acting as a pretext for a rapprochement. The future partners would stand side by side, necks down, and move forward at the same pace, uttering little cries. Once the couple is formed, they continue to participate in the collective parades until they mate.
