It is part of the Morvan Montagnard (Mountainous Morvan) characterized by a very high rate of afforestation (82%) which further closes the landscape and by an altitude exceeding 1,640 ft (500 m). Overall, the Morvandelle forest is made up of 54% pure hardwood stands, 35% conifers, and 11% mixed forest. However, the young coniferous forest resulting from recent plantations encouraged by the public authorities since 1950 reaches 85% of the general afforestation rate in certain municipalities.
