The motto of the manades

In addition to all the attributes attached to the bull's horns, the devise (motto) is the final element that can be affixed to the animal. It consists of a piece of fabric formed of a cockade and ribbons, similar to that of equestrian competitions. It is attached with glue or pitch on the withers of cocardiers bulls on special occasions. Along with the iron mark and escoussures, the motto constitutes the third distinctive sign of a manade (herd). It is not an attribute and therefore is not to be removed by the raseteurs, though it was in the past. The term tourniquet was used to qualify this former attribute, which required a specific raset. Unlike the other ones, the tourniquet was attached to the bull's back rather than on its head.
