In the 16th century, the sentries of Sedan Castle stood in a watchtower to keep an eye on the surroundings. These small corbelled towers – sixteen in number – were built on the corners of the bastions all around the castle. This watchtower, located at the corner of the Ladies’ Bastion, is the last one still standing. Beyond the watchtower, one can see the towers of the church of Saint-Charles-Borromée in Sedan. Built in 1562 as the town’s main Protestant temple, it was transformed into a Catholic church in 1685, after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes.
