The Société des Ocres de France was created in 1901. Today, it constitutes the last company to exploit and transform the ocher sand of the Provençal Massif des Ocres into pure ocher in its Apt factory. It perpetuates the ocher industry in the last active quarry in Europe, at Gargas in the Vaucluse department.
