The elephant clan does not move until the matriarch is ready. Some females sometimes make the rest of the family wait for thirty minutes or more. If the matriarch approves of the chosen direction, she moves, which causes the rest of the family to start, usually passing first. On the other hand, if she disapproves of the chosen destination, she may render obsolete the fruit of long negotiations undertaken by the other members of the family.
