The monumental Cour d’Honneur of the Hôtel National des Invalides is located at the heart of this military institution designed by Louis XIV. It is 102 metres long and 64 metres wide. The four two-storey arcaded buildings are built in the classical architectural style of the Sun King’s reign. However, the decoration of the 60 dormer windows is a departure from the sober facades. Nearly 17 km of corridors run through the Invalides buildings. The courtyard is used for solemn ceremonies, soldiers’ funerals, and national tributes to personalities from the civil society or the artistic world.
