The Centre Pompidou-Metz explores the importance of stained glass in the work of Marc Chagall. According to the artist, “stained glass is exhilarating. It needs seriousness, passion. He must live through the perceived light. In his religious work, Chagall combines his personal memories where Yiddish echoes his vision of the Bible. Due to his avant-garde influences, he prioritizes the colors over the line. He had already composed illustrations for the Bible at the request of Ambroise Vollard in the 1930s.
