The magpie shrike can be easily identified with its bicolor plumage and its very long black tail. It feeds on insects, small rodents, reptiles and fruits. While hunting, this African bird regularly stands on a perch, looking for preys, as shown in the photograph, before dropping onto it. It can also hunt on the ground.
