Creation of the Orb Pont-Canal

Once the Canal du Midi got closer to the city of Beziers, rose the difficulty of crossing the Orb. To solve this issue, Vauban decided to build a canal bridge in 1684. But it was not until 1858 that the Pont-Canal of Orb was actually constructed. This canal bridge consists of seven arches and is 787 feet long (240 m). It is one of the largest in France, and it can be compared to that of the Cacor on the Garonne Canal in Moissac. The canal bridge of Orb is classified as a historical monument since 1996.
