The construction of stone vaults
0
0
To build vaults, the stonemasons first have to draw sketches or arch measurements. They allow them to obtain the angles of the joints between the keystones and to design the hangers. The hangers are temporary wooden structures made by carpenters according to the shape of the future vaults. They support the keystones of the vaults during their installation. The masons then place the cut stones on the wooden hangers with mortar to hold them together.
