During the First World War, the Farman MF.7s of the French squadrons proved to be very useful. From September 1914 to June 1915, the reconnaissance aircraft took part in all missions over the front. More than 2,000 MF.7s were built in France between 1914 and 1918. In Great Britain, about fifty aircraft were assembled around a Rolls-Royce 75 hp engine (the S.7 Longhorn). The Belgian army also bought this revolutionary aircraft which could carry small hand-launched dart bombs. The MF.7 on display at the Musée de l’Air et de l’Espace (Air and Space Museum) was intended to transport high authorities, including King Albert I.
