The Dolder's bell

The Dolder gate, built in 1291, is listed as a museum of France. It traces the history and development of the medieval city of Riquewihr from the 13th to the 17th century. The city guard lived in the 4-story defensive tower. His mission was to close the gates of the city at nightfall. He kept watch and sounded the alarm in the event of an enemy approach or fire. The bell at its top, remelted in 1842, bears the inscription: It is joy, it is the alarm that my sound produces. From the day I announce the din, and the rest of the night.
