The upper garden's cistern

The upper garden of the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle forms the link between the seigniorial home and the bastion. Under large trees, a stone bench stands next to the copy of a Renaissance-style filtration cistern, surmounted by a sandstone statue of Bodo Ebhardt, architect of the reconstruction, as a knight. The original of this fountain is observable in the village of Eguisheim, near Colmar. At the top of thick walls, a covered walkway runs around the garden on the northeast and south sides.
