The fortified medieval city of Carcassonne

0
Carcassonne is known as the most formidable fortified complex still visible in Europe. The medieval city’s origins go even further back to the 1st century BC. The locality was roman back then. It comprises 1.86 miles (3 km) of battlements, 52 towers, two principal gates (the Porte Narbonnaise and the Porte d’Aude), the Saint Nazaire basilica, a count’s castle, and more. It is the epitome of Middle Ages architecture.
