The Orthodox chapel of Menton

The Russian Orthodox Notre-Dame-des-Affligés chapel was built from 1884 onwards on the initiative of Count Protassov-Bechmetieff inside the cemetery of the Vieux Château in Menton. Back then, a 177 square feet (54 m²) plot of land worth 26,000 francs was donated free of charge by the city of Menton to its important Russian colony. The work for the chapel was directed by the municipal architect Sylvian Jauffret, and Notre-Dame-des-Affligés was inaugurated on March 12, 1886.
