From the private terrace of one of the suites at the Plaza Athénée Hotel, it is easy to see the white spire of the Anglican American Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, located on Avenue George-V in the 8th arrondissement. Built in a neo-Gothic style by English architect George Edmund Street, the religious building was inaugurated in 1886. The forty or so stained glass windows are the work of the London glass painters James Bell and A. Beckham on the theme of “Venite adoremus” and “Te Deum”. The spire was added in 1906. In 1923, a memorial to the American soldiers who died in the First World War was raised there.
